It was demonstrated that serum vitamin D levels of Hashimoto's thyroiditis patients were significantly lower than controls, and vitamin D deficiency severity correlated with duration of Hashimoto's thyroiditis, thyroid volume, and antibody levels. These findings may suggest a potential role of vitamin D level in development of Hashimoto's thyroiditis and/or its progression to hypothyroidism. REFERENCE:
