1. THE TYPE OF FISH
What is the type of the fish used in the supplement?

A good Omega 3 supplement is produced from cold-water, deep-sea fish oil and contains a balanced, concentrated daily dose of two important omega-3 fatty acids: eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) in two convenient capsules per day.

These small fish don’t live for very long.
​So they don’t get a chance to soak up toxins and they do not eat other large fish!
Tuna and salmon, from which many supplements are made, are very high in heavy metals and other toxins !
Governments advise pregnant woman to eat rarely this type of fish!
Good brands will indicate clearly on the label what type of fish are using!

​Others, are saying just ‘’from fish’’! Than, probably are using tuna or salmon !
2. THE STRENGHT: EPA/DHA

The strength : how much EPA/DHA per capsule? 

Most of the labels will tell you: 1000 mg Omega 3 per capsule. 
But from this whole Omega-3 quantity, how much is EPA and DHA? 
Many practitioners worldwide recommend 1000 -2000 mg /day of omega-3 fish oil.
What health care providers and customers alike need to understand is that 1000mg of natural fish oil contains maybe a little more than a half of the powerful substances of the omega-3 family – the EPA and DHA.
The efficacy level from many of the scientific studies is set between 2-3 grams (2000-3000mg) per day.
​But
 we are talking about EPA and DHA, not the entire fish oil.
In fact, the anti-inflammatory reaction of Omega 3 doesn’t seem to start in unless you consume at least 2000mg each day.

You will find that not many brands are indicating clearly, and often it’s not even stated.

Reputable brands are telling you the exact amount of EPA/DHA per capsule, so will will know what you are getting for your money!

The research, by scientists at the University of Auckland, the University of Newcastle and the University of New South Wales, found many of the tablets contained just over half the amount of DHA and EPA than that advertised.

​Is your Omega-3 tested by a third-party lab? Has any certification? Why don’t Manufacturers Share More Information?

Because they don’t have to.
Manufacturers are not required to say how much mercury is in their pills. So they don’t.
​Same goes for PCBs, Dioxins, Furans and the other heavy metals.

It analyzed the supplements for:

4. PHARMACEUTICAL DEGREE
Producing a pharmaceutical grade fish oil with a very high level of Omega-3 requires repeated distillation and purification.This makes the oil stronger, purer and yes, more expensive.

But it’s a simple way to make sure you’re getting the purest and best fish oil supplement.

A good Omega 3:
  • has to be manufactured in a state-of-the art facility
  •  to be virtually free of contaminants, which are usually eliminated through a double-molecular distillation process that ensures the highest possible purity.
  • through this process, heavy metals, PCBs, pesticides, and organic residues are effectively eliminated. ​
5. FRESHNESS

 Is your oil free of trans-fatty acids ? Is your oil rancid ?

Fish oil is highly volatile and oxidize very quickly!
Is your omega 3 taste awful?
