Increased free radical production overwhelms the natural antioxidants defense mechanisms, subjecting individuals to hyperoxidant stress and thus leading to osteoporosis. The results reveal that antioxidant defenses are markedly decreased in osteoporotic women and male patients. Therefore, it may be suggested that oxidative stress plays an important role in the pathophysiology of osteoporosis is associated with increased bone resorption and low bone mass in otherwise healthy women. The total mineral and vitamin intake required for bone health (calcium, magnesium, phosphorus & vitamin D) was below the recommended, among majority of the sample. REFERENCE:
